Emilia Arenas

A consummate Spinning and Pilates teacher in her native Colombia for more than 12 years, Emilia’s life totally changed when her mother invited her to a Yoga class. From that date on she embarked on a fascinating journey of Yoga classes, Philosophic studies and Sufi meditations that peaked with her first Ashtanga class in Miami.

She has been devoted to the practice ever since, studying under renowned teachers as Kino MacGregor, Tim Feldmann and Greg Nardi, and attended workshops from such great teachers as Tim Miller, Lino Miele and Joan and Mark Darby.

Eager to share her passion for Ashtanga Yoga she continued her studies and soon became a graduate of The Intensive Ashtanga Yoga Course at Miami Life Center, and took her first trip to Mysore to study under the supervision of Sharat Ramaswamy at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.

Heather Serna

Heather received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the University of South Florida. Her first yoga class was introduced to her in 2004, but it was not until 2007, her senior year of college, that she became a dedicated yogi. Yoga helped calm her mind and relieve stress that developed during her college years. She found her passion in Ashtanga yoga in 2008, and now is a devoted practitioner. Heather travels to Mysore, India each year to deepen her practice and knowledge from the direct Ashtanga lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Heather’s Ashtanga practice and teaching has developed through the study with Pattabhi Jois’ grandson, Sharath Rangaswami, and his daughter Saraswathi Rangaswami. Here in the United States Heather studies with Kino MacGregor, Tim Feldmann, and Greg Nardi. She has also worked with Melanie Fawer and Zoe Slatoff.

Lora Hogan

Lora Hogan completed her 200 hour training through the internationally known Yoga Works training program. Lora continues to study in the Yoga Works method. She has a B.A. in Theater Studies from Emory University. She came to yoga in 2003 as an actress and quickly became addicted to yoga’s profound influence on her voice, body, and present-moment awareness. Due to her lifelong personal experience with scoliosis, Lora devotes much of her study to proper alignment and body awareness. She emphasizes form in order to promote ease, joy, and breath–both on and off the mat. Lora has been privileged to study across the country. Her past and present teachers include: Jeanmarie Paolillo and Tzahi Moskovitz (YogaWorks); Charles and Lisa Matkin; Rusty Wells; Brooke Meyers; Sarah Thomlinson; Karl Erb; Ana Forrest; and a host of other powerful instructors. At the end of each class, Lora hopes her students go out into their days and nights feeling happier, lighter, and more present in their bodies, more present in their minds, and more present in the here and now of this busy world.

Dancing and moving since birth, Lora Hogan was thrilled to discover Zumba Fitness after her move to Florida. With her theatrical background, Lora makes sure each class is a blast! You’ll be laughing and smiling while you sweat and Lora’s yoga and fitness background ensures that you WILL be getting the best possible workout. You’ll just be having so much fun you won’t notice!

JEN LOWERY

Jen is immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to complete her teacher training with master teacher, Jonny Kest. She also has studied extensively with Jonny’s brother Bryan, Shiva Rea, David Williams, and others. When Jen began seeking to further her yoga study a few years back, she discovered that most teacher training programs weren’t set up to go into great detail about yoga philosophy. So, she sought out the nation’s leading yoga philosopher, Georg Fuerstein, and participated in his 800 hour Yoga Traditions Philosophy course. She believes this intense philosophical study gives her a strong foundation from which to continue to grow her own personal practice and a deeper understanding of the principles and history behind her chosen spiritual path.

Jen loves to teach a strong, sweaty, and spiritual yoga class while at the same time remembering not to take the whole thing so damn seriously! She believes that having fun on the mat is much more important that than the position of our fingertips and toes, and that we should use our yoga as a path to strengthen our joy, gratitude, and compassion above everything else. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with getting a nice yoga butt in the process! Yoga has awesome side effects!

Wendy Buck Hessinger

I was introduced to yoga in college and I have been hooked every since taking my first yoga class. I had an amazing teacher I will never forget his name is Mark Roberts.

I was a student all my life and I still am a student. Yoga is a lifelong journey, each class, workshop or event I attend I learn.

I went to Yoga Teacher Training at the Yoga Energy Center about 4 years ago. I began teaching yoga as soon as I finished training. I have now been teaching yoga in Saint Petersburg for over 4 years. My specialty is teaching beach yoga every day at the Don Cesar. In addition I teach Senior Yoga at Allegro at College Harbor and at the Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay; one of my Senior Yoga Classes is taught to seniors that are in wheel chairs. I love my seniors! They never miss a class. I also teach at Gold’s Gym and at Gills YMCA.

I have three kids and a husband at home and 2 dogs. We have been hosting foreign exchange students for 12 years – it has been a most enjoyable and educational experience for me and for my children.

I am passionate about yoga and I try to incorporate yoga into my everyday life as much as possible.

I have studied yoga philosophy with Stephen Cope and the art of kirtan with Jai Uttal. My training has synthesized into an alignment-focused mindful flow style.  I begin and end class with pranayama and Restorative poses for grounding and meditation while I weave the rich lore and philosophy of yoga throughout, often chanting as the spirit moves me.  I regularly facilitate Yoga Nidra at Yogani’s Studios.  I can be reached at 813-760-0958 or tambay@aol.com.

Roni Sloman

After being in full-time ministry here in Tampa, spending time in the wilderness, and performing some mission work I had come to a place where I was thirsty to find an even more conscious way of interacting with the world around me. The practice of yoga and meditation was quickly life changing and I felt called to share it with others. Bella Prana studio focuses on breath awareness, smaller classes, personal attention, and mind body awareness. Students at Bella Prana learn more than the asanas, but should walk away with a greater understanding of the philosophy of yoga and how it applies to their everyday life. Bella Prana means “Beautiful Breath” in honor of the invisible yet life giving source that sustains us everyday. It is with humility that I teach yoga and meditation and pray that you will find rest within these walls.

BananaYoga Music Concert with Shana Banana

Shana “Banana” Smith

What happens when you get a Master’s degree in Oceanography?  You become a national children’s entertainer, of course!  After working and teaching (and playing lots of music) on a marine research vessel, Shana Smith decided to take a leap of faith and formalize her creative talents in singing and songwriting.  Shana discovered and developed her incredible joy of writing songs for children first as a touring folk musician when children were in the audience, and then on the grounds of her mother’s preschool.  Over the years, she became nationally known as “Shana Banana” and earned a reputation as one of today’s top children’s entertainers, with a voice that still delves into blues, jazz, and folk as well.

Performing at major festivals and performing arts centers across the United States, Shana Banana has earned many prestigious awards along the way, including: two first-round Grammy nominations, Parents’ Choice, iParenting, NAPPA, Kids’ First Coalition for Quality Children’s Media, and “Best Children’s Song In the Country” by the Just Plain Folks organization for her most requested  song:  I Want to be a Dinosaur.  She has performed at the White House, Chicago’s Lincoln Park, the Houston Children’s Museum, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Seattle’s Whirligig, the Florida Folk Festival, Merlefest (in honor of Merle Watson), and many more.  Her favorite “gig,” however, is as mom to her two young children.

Shana Banana continues to develop a variety of live themed shows, CD’s, DVD’s, books, study guides, and workshops for teachers, parents, and of course, kids!  She also continues her efforts with children’s hospitals and school outreach programs to assist in her long-term mission of making a positive difference in the lives of children, motivating and cheering them as they grow.  She has been endorsed by a local PBS station to create a new television series, called “Banana Bread,” has just completed a bedtime transitions CD called “Banana Bedtime,” and is currently working on her fourth CD, an ocean-themed treasure called “Banana Beach Party USA.”
